Well, this is kind of surprising. I have a job! A fantastic one! Like, for another company, not just for myself.
This is great news for me. After running my small business full time for almost three years, I missed having coworkers. Heck, I even missed having a commute!
While this is a very exciting opportunity for me, I’m sad to say I won’t be able to keep helping clients with online dating coaching. I will, however, continue to assist people via my podcast Steady, and I’ll also be launching online dating courses at some point. I may eventually acquiesce and take on a client or two per quarter, too. Stay tuned for all that sort of thing via my newsletter. (And existing clients, don’t worry; we’ll find ways to schedule in the remaining coaching you’ve booked, unless you prefer a prorated refund.)
Thank you all so much for this amazing entrepreneurship journey—wish me luck in Big Tech!
Ha! I am catching up on emails after a long week of volunteering at App Camp for Girls. But of course, “catching up on emails” also means I occasionally catch up on Twitter, too, ya know? And this new Anna Akana video popped into my feed and totally cracked me up. (Stick around for the […]
Do any of y’all listen to the podcast Reply All? (If not, you totally should start!) It’s a delightfully geeky, entertaining, well produced, and insightful show, started by a guy who left NPR and started a podcast about starting up a podcast company. This is that company’s first podcast. (Yeah, take your time parsing that […]
Finally, a TED Talk about online dating that I wholeheartedly endorse! I actually heard this talk first on NPR’s How to Do Everything podcast; I’m glad to see it’s getting a wider audience. Hannah Fry has done an amazing job of presenting online dating data in a realistic and fun way. Her TED Talk “The […]
Hi y’all! Ready for your annual reminder of my thoughts on Valentine’s Day? :) 1) Valentine’s Day is a made-up corporate bullshit holiday that puts enormous unnecessary pressure on both single and non-single people! 2) It’s really fucking hard to get a reservation! 3) As Dan Savage likes to point out, it’s kind of high […]
I don’t usually get excited when social media marketers send me infographics and ask me to publish them on my site. See, most of the folks who do this are shilling some scare-tactics advice to try and get you to pay for weird services or products that you don’t need. So imagine my surprise and […]
The most recent entry in the NY Times’s Modern Love column has been getting a lot of traction lately, with good reason! It’s a fascinating exploration of a sticky academic idea about how to forge love, with a catchy headline to top it off. In a nutshell, the study explores the idea that two people can […]
Over the weekend, Grant was Googling something random and came across this PDF of Old English trade names and descriptions. I’m a linguistics BA who loves geeky creative portmanteaux and playfully pretentious references, so I immediately proclaimed that these would be a fantastic source of online dating username inspiration for a certain geeky set. I think […]
Hey folks! I’ll be on the east coast again this fall. This means you Eastern Time folks can get a piece of me! I don’t have time for individual client sessions, but I hope to host another online dating photo shoot happy hour. Woohoo! Everyone has just been eating these up; they’re amazing for singles but […]
”Last week my pal Kate tweeted me this delightful link: I told you it was really gross dating tech guys in Seattle (cc: @askvirginia) http://t.co/cf7h2bYjhY — Kate K. (@kateseventy8) July 11, 2014 For now, let’s ignore Gawker’s weird graphic, and also put the issue of dating tech guys in Seattle on hold. I can guarantee that […]
